(Tummy Tuck)
Abdominoplasty is a surgical procedure which helps correct soft tissue abnormalities of the anterior trunk; this extends from the lower rib cage to the pubic and inguinal area. Depending on the degree of underlying muscle fascia laxity, amount of fat between the skin and fascia and amount of skin laxity, different surgical procedures are available.
Liposuction only is best when there is only a modest amount of excess fat, tight abdominal musculature and tight skin with normal elasticity.
Traditional abdominoplasty is performed when there is excess skin above and below the umbilicus, fat excess and separation of the midline rectus muscle or abdominal wall hernias.
A limited or modified abdominoplasty is performed when there is limited skin excess.
Each patient has unique needs Dr. Slywka, known for his gentle, healing touch, artistry and experience, will help you determine your goals and provide the evaluation and plan for the best, most natural-looking results.
Abdominoplasty is performed in the traditional manner with a transverse incision at the pubic area and with an encircling incision around the umbilicus. Liposuction is almost always a part of this surgery, both above and below the umbilicus. The skin and fatty tissue is freed from the underlying muscle fascia up to the bottom of the breast bone; a suture tightening of the fascia from this area to the pubic area is performed in the midline with closure of underlying hernia, if present. The excess skin and fatty tissue flap is pulled inferiorly and removed at the original transverse pubic incision line. An opening is made to expose the umbilicus and bring it to surface. Drainage tubes are place; incisions are closed and dressings are placed, then covered by a surgical elastic abdominal binder.
Abdominoplasty surgeries are performed in our private, in-office surgical suite, which is AAAASF accredited and has a private exit door. We provide the highest standard of safety, care and privacy.
Abdominoplasty is usually performed under general anesthesia which is provided by a CRNA (certified registered nurse anesthetist, who is always present during and after surgery until the patient has been discharged.
The drainage tube is usually left in place for three days; this tube and the abdominal binder help control swelling and compress the skin to the new body contours.
Dr. Slywka and his staff will give specific instructions on how to care for your surgical sites following abdominoplasty, including medications, when to resume showering and when to resume physical activity. You will have been given advice regarding your surgery and any risks during your consultation and pre-operative appointments. It may take several months for the swelling to fully dissipate after abdominoplasty surgery. As it does, your new contours and enhanced self-image should continue to develop. The fulfillment you feel from the surgery should continue as long as you control your weight and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
