(also known as Rhinoplasty or "nose job")
improves the appearance and proportion of your nose, enhancing facial harmony and self confidence. Surgery of the nose may also correct impaired breathing caused by structural abnormalities in the nose.
Rhinoplasty can change:
— Nose size, in relation to the other facial structures; nose width, at the bridge; nose profile, with a visible hump or depression
on nasal dorsum
— Nasal tip, that is large, bulbous, drooping or too upturned; nostrils that are large or wide
— Nasal asymmetry and deviation of the septum
Dr. Brian Slywka is an expert cosmetic plastic surgeon whose goal is natural-looking results. He is known for his gentle, healing touch, his artistry and his experience. He approaches each patient with a unique evaluation and will discuss the nose surgery which will be the right option for you.
At your initial consultation, your external and internal nose will be examined and evaluated for the recommended nasal procedure. Prior to any surgery, the risks and potential complications will be discussed. Some lab tests will be needed.
Surgery of the nose is performed either using a closed procedure, where incisions are hidden inside the nose, or less frequently, an open procedure, where an incision is made across the columella, the narrow strip of tissue that separates the nostrils.
Through these incisions, the soft tissues that cover the nose are gently raised, allowing access to reshape the main nasal framework, and to alter the cartilage of the nasal tip.
Often, the nasal tip requires a cartilage graft if further projection is needed, and this cartilage usually comes from the modified tip cartilages or from the septum, which separates the nasal passage ways.
If the nasal septum shows a significant deviation, it may be adjusted to help improve impaired breathing. Additional incisions may be placed in the natural creases of the nostrils to alter their size.
After completion of the surgery, a medicated gauze packing is placed through the nostrils, and is usually left in overnight. Tape and a splint are placed in the outer surface of the nose to be removed in about five to seven days.
Nose surgeries are performed in our private, in-office surgical suite, which is AAAASF accredited and has a private exit. We provide the highest standard of safety, care and privacy.
Nasal surgery is usually performed under general anesthesia. Anesthesia is provided by a CRNA (certified registered nurse anesthetist), who is always present during and after surgery until the patient has been discharged.
Dr. Slywka and his staff will give specific instructions on how to care for your nose following surgery. There will be medications to be taken, usually during the first week. There will be a variable amount of discomfort, swelling and bruising. And you will be advised of expected changes during follow-up visits, especially in the swelling which may take several months and up to a year, sometimes longer, for the outcome of the surgery to fully refine. Although the results of nose surgery are usually permanent, cartilage may continue to reshape and move tissue that may change the outcome over time.
