A surgical correction of over-developed or enlarged breasts in men is performed to reduce the excess tissue associated with this entity. Enlarged breast tissue is common in men of all ages. It can be the result of hormonal changes, heredity conditions, disease or the use of certain drugs. Gynecomastia can cause emotional discomfort and impair your self confidence. Some men may even avoid certain physical activities and intimacy simply to hide their condition. Dr. Slywka, will discuss your goals and provide the evaluation and plan for the best, most natural-looking results.
Your gynecomastia surgery can be achieved usually with both excision and liposuction.
If the gynecomastia is primarily the result of excess fatty tissue, liposuction techniques alone may be used. Surgical excision is utilized where glandular breast tissue or excess skin must be removed. The usual incision site is at the bottom edge of the areola.

Male breast reductions are performed under general anesthesia or intravenous sedation anesthesia . Dr. Slywka works with a certified registered nurse anesthetist (CRNA) who is always present during and after surgery until the patient is discharged from the office.
After surgery, dressings will be placed over the incisions and an elastic support garment will be placed around the chest. A small drainage tube may be placed overnight to drain any excess blood or fluid that may collect.
Dr. Slywka and his staff will give you specific instructions on how to care for your chest, including medications and how soon to resume activities. You will be seen the next day following surgery and be given appropriate follow-up appointments.
Dr. Slywka and his staff will give you extensive advice regarding your surgery and any risks during your consultation and pre-operative appointments. The final results of breast reduction in men are usually permanent. The appearance of the external scar should gradually fade and blend.. Your improved upper body will likely enhance your self-image and confidence, whether in a shirt and tie, a t-shirt, or baring your chest at the beach.
