may be right for you if you are not happy with the size and shape of your breast. Overly large breasts can cause some women to have both health and emotional problems. In addition to self image issues, you may also experience physical discomfort. The weight of excess breast tissue can impair your ability to lead an active life. Also known as reduction mammaplasty, breast reduction surgery removes excess breast fat, glandular tissue and skin to achieve a breast size in proportion with your body and to alleviate the discomfort associated with overly large breasts.
Dr. Slywka, known for his gentle, healing touch, artistry and experience, will help you determine breast reduction your goals and provide the evaluation and plan for the best, most natural-looking results.
Each patient has unique needs and Dr. Slywka will help you decide what is best for you. Breast reduction is a good option for you if:
— You are bothered by the feeling that your breasts are too large
— Your breasts limit your physical activity
— You experience back, neck and shoulder pain caused by the weight of your breasts
— You have regular indentations from bra straps that support heavy, pendulous breasts
— You have skin irritation beneath the breast crease
— Your breasts hang low and have stretched skin
— Your nipples rest below the breast crease when your breasts are unsupported
— You have enlarged areolas caused by stretched skin
Dr. Slywka uses a vertical breast reduction technique. The breast reduction pattern is drawn on the breast in the standing position, determining the new nipple location, and with a keyhole pattern, an estimate of skin and underlying breast tissue to be removed is outlined. These markings are guidelines for the surgical incisions which will produce a permanent scar in a circular pattern around the areola, a vertical scar from the bottom of the areola toward the breast crease, and a horizontal scar at the new crease area. In most cases these will fade and significsntly improve over time.
Routinely, liposuction is used for further contouring the vertical breast reduction. If breast size is largely due to fatty tissue and excess skin is not a factor, liposuction alone may be the procedure to use.
Breast reductions are performed in our private, in-office surgical suite, which is AAAASF accredited and has a private exit. We provide the highest standard of safety, care and privacy.
Breast reductions are usually performed with medications for your comfort. The choices include general anesthesia and intravenous sedation anesthesia. Dr. Slywka will recommend the best choice for you. He works with a CRNA (certified registered nurse anesthetist), who is always present for your entire procedure and recovery period.
When your breast reduction procedure is complete, dressings will be applied to the incisions and you will be placed in a support bra. A small, thin tube may be temporarily placed under the skin to drain any excess blood or fluid that may collect.
Dr. Slywka and his staff will give you specific instructions on how to care for your breasts following surgery as well as medications to be taken. You will always be seen the next day and follow-up appointments scheduled as you continue your post-opperative recovery.
Dr. Slywka and his staff will give you extensive advice regarding your surgery and any risks during your consultation and pre-op appointments. The results of breast reduction surgery will be long-lasting. Your new breast size should help relieve you from the discomfort and physical limitations experienced prior to breast reduction. Your better proportioned figure will likely enhance your self image and boost your self-confidence. However, over time your breasts can change due to aging, weight fluctuations, hormonal factors and gravity.
