,
also known as augmentation mammaplasty, involves using implants to fulfill your desire for fuller breasts. It may be right for you if you are not happy with the shape of your breasts or the proportion of your body, either because of heredity or loss of volume after weight loss or pregnancy. A breast augumentation can rejuvenate your figure with a breast profile that is larger and more uplifted.
Dr. Slywka, known for his gentle, healing touch, artistry and experience, will help you determine your goals and provide the evaluation and plan for the best, most natural-looking results.
Each patient has unique needs and Dr. Slywka will help you decide what is best for you Your augmentation can be achieved through two different incision patterns and techniques. Incision options include:
— Inframammary incision – made under the breast just above the breast crease.
— Periareolar incision – around the bottom edge of the areola.
After Dr. Slywka makes the incision, a space is created for placement of the breast implant either:
— Under the pectoral muscle (a submuscular placement), or
— Directly behind the breast tissue, over the pectoral muscle (a submammary/ subglandular placement)
The method for inserting and positioning implants depends on the type of implant (see below), degree of enlargement desired, your body type, and Dr. Slywka’s recommendations.
The type and size of the implant will be determined not just on your desired increase in size but more importantly on your breast anatomy, skin elasticity and body type. The types are:
— Saline breast implants are filled with sterile salt water. They can be filled with varying amounts of saline which can affect the shape, firmness and feel of the breast. Should the implant shell leak, a saline breast implant will collapse and the saline will be absorbed and naturally expelled by the body. Currently Saline breast implants are FDA-approved for augmentation in women 18 years of age and older.
— Silicone breast implants are filled with an elastic, cohesive gel. The gel feels and moves much like natural breast tissue. If the implant leaks, the gel may remain within the tissue capsule which forms around every implant,or rarely, could escape into the surrounding breast tissue. A leaking implant filled with silicone gel may not collapse. If you choose these implants you may need to visit your plastic surgeon to make sure the implants are functioning properly. A mammogram can often access the condition of the breast implants, an ultrasound or MRI screening can prvide a more definitive finding. Currently Silicone breast implants are FDA-approved for augmentation in women 22 years of age and older.
Implant manufacturers occasionally introduce new styles and types of implants, so there may be additional options available.
Breast augmentation surgeries are performed in our private, in-office surgical suite, which is AAAASF accredited and has a private exit door. We provide the highest standard of safety, care and privacy.
Breast augmentation is usually performed under general anesthesia or intravenous sedation. Anesthesia a provided by a CRNA (certified registered nurse anesthetist), who is always present during and after surgery until the patient has been discharged.
Dr. Slywka and his staff will give specific instructions on how to care for your breasts following surgery, including medications, when to resume showering, and resuming physical activity. There will be a variable amount of discomfort, swelling and bruising. You will have been given advice regarding your surgery and any risks during your consultation and pre-op appointments. The results of your breast augmentation surgery are immediately visible and over time, post-surgical swelling will resolve and incision lines will fade. Satisfaction with your new image should continue to grow as you recover and realize the fulfillment of your goal for fuller breasts. |
